John Terry, a former Chelsea centre-back, has hailed Nemanja Vidic, a former Manchester United teammate.
Terry and Vidic are two of the best centre defenders of the twenty-first century, and they were instrumental in their respective teams' victories. The question of who was the better player has persisted for a long time, and it came up again during a Q&A on Terry's Instagram.
"Everyone will have different perspectives, but Vidic was a brilliant defender," the former Blues captain said, as quoted by the Daily Star. Terry went on to compliment Vidic's stamina and ability to perform at the highest levelyear after year. "I am asked this a lot, and the big element that allows you to be spoken about as one of the finest is longevity," he said. Vidic has been doing this year after year, after year, after year. He's also a top notch individual."
Nemanja Vidic of Manchester United and John Terry of Chelsea collided multiple times.
In January 2006, Manchester United signed Nemanja Vidic from Spartak Moscow, whereas Chelsea signed John Terry from Nottingham Forest in 2000. Although the Englishman had a clear advantage over Vidic, the Serbian adapted superbly to the Premier League and went on to become a world-class centre-back.
Terry stayed at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2017, demonstrating his ability to stay at the highest level for a long time. Vidic left Manchester United in 2014 to join Inter Milan. Chelsea's rise endangered Manchester United's dominance, and the two players battled multiple times. This resulted in a number of tense fights, with both defenders contributing to their team's success.
Terry appeared in 713 games for the Blues in all competitions, scoring 67 goals and assisting on 29 others. Domestically, the 41-year-old won five Premier League crowns, five FA Cups, and three Carabao Cups. With the club, he also won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. Vidic, on the other hand, appeared in exactly 300 games for Manchester United in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and assisting on five occasions. Despite playing for the Blues for less than half as long as Terry, he won the same number of Premier League titles and Carabao Cups. A Champions League and a FIFA Club World Cup were also added to the 40-year-trophy old's cabinet.
